Sepia Scenes #50

Today we celebrate our 50th Sepia Scenes post! Congratulations to all of you who have made Sepia Scenes so much fun. Keep enjoying and keep posting!

This weekend we visited Walt Whitman's Birthplace in West Hills, Long Island.

In 1819, Walt Whitman was born at a farmhouse in West Hills built by his father circa 1810. The Birthplace was restored in 2001 and it is a fine example of native Long Island craftsmanship. The Birthplace is the only NYS Historic Site on Long Island listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1998, the White House Millennium Council named it an "American Treasure." In 2007, the Walt Whitman Trail, which begins at the Birthplace, was designated a National Recreational Trail by the US Dept. of the Interior.

"A morning glory at my window satisfies me more than the metaphysics of books."

Sepia Scenes #47

Blackwell Island Light
Roosevelt, Island, N.Y.

After I used the sepia filter, I increased the brightness/contrast in Adobe Photoshop 7. Then uploaded the photo to Photobucket and clicked the Cartoon filter then faded it almost completely to get the effect you see above.

I never knew this light existed until a couple of weeks ago...

Sepia Scenes #46

Hi Everyone! It's Sepia Scenes again!
I appreciate all my friendly bloggers who participate every week in this meme!

The ubiquitous sea gull.

Do you see a face in the rock?

My two photos this week are photos of scenes from the shores of the East River. It's so wonderful living surrounded by water which is the case in New York.

This week I also played with the sepia toning using Photobucket. I used the "old photo" filter and colored in the backgrounds of both photos. In the second photo I left it a little more pink than the first one.
