Sepia Scenes #68

When I took photos of some of the gargoyles at Hempstead House in the Sands Point Preserve on Long Island little did I realize that the originals (one is just below) would appear as if they were original sepia shots.

Adding a sepia tone in the usual way (Adobe Photoshop 7) gave me the photo below.

In this case it seems as if the addition of the sepia tone made the photo lose some clarity. Do you agree? I wonder why? Anybody know?

~Another Way to Colorize Sepia Photos~

~Selective Sepia~

Jarome and Uncle Jerome

At Thanksgiving I bought young Jarome an elf's hat which he wore all day. The process of Selective Sepia is a little detailed but well worth it. Try it!

Sepia Scenes #66

These red flowers are lovely in the original but I thought giving them a slightly pink, gold sepia tone would give them a wonderful effect. I brightened the photo a bit before I added the sepia effect using Hue/Saturation in Adobe.

Next week I thought we'd take some time to show you how to colorize a sepia photo. I'm looking forward to it.

Sepia Scenes #65

This is a piece of art that I saw in an Italian restaurant on New Year's Day. I thought it would look great with a sepia tone, so here it is.

See the original photo below:

It's also very beautiful.

Sepia Scenes #64

Welcome to Sepia Scenes this week! We have a new badge which you see above. Feel free to copy it and use it in your post.

My post consists of two photos from St. Michael's Cemetery in Astoria, Queens, NY.

A young woman dressed in draped roman garb is about to drop a rose from her wreath on the grave.

Here's a close-up of her hand and the rose. I added some soft focus around the edges of the shot and some graduated tinting. You can get both effects using Adobe Photoshop, Picasa, or other photo-editing software.

I think cemetery statuary lends itself particularly to a sepia tone, don't you?

new badge for Sepia Scenes

I'll be using this new badge for our Sepia Scenes post this coming Wednesday/Thursday.

Just right click on the photo and Save Image to your Desktop or My Pictures if you'd like to use it.

We have a double posting day because there are quite a few people who live far from the U.S. and appreciate not having to post in the middle of the night.

I followed the instructions here for the sepia effect above.
