View West from High Line at 14th St., Manhattan, Sunday July 26th, 2009.
The first section of the High Line, New York City’s park in the sky, opened in June, 2009. This elevated, linear park is built on a 1930s former freight rail structure on Manhattan’s West Side. It’s owned by the City of New York, and operated by the non-profit Friends of the High Line, in partnership with the Department of Parks & Recreation.
Written by Friends of the High Line’s full-time staff members, the High Line Blog is our way to keep you updated on the park. Here you’ll find park news, construction updates from Section 2, news from our office, press, photos and video, events, and interesting things happening in our community. Like the High Line, it’s a work in progress. Check back periodically, and we hope you can visit the High Line and see for yourself!

Life is .... Welcome!
I very much like the view. Being a people-watching type. I probably could watch for hours and hours. My camera would love it too. ;-)
Among all the high buildings there is an opening ... air ... water ... The photo has a lot to tell :)
I'd like to visit, but I don't see a trip to New York in my future... too bad.
Have a great Sepia Scenes day!
Interesting way to sneak some views around the city! Refreshing to see some water between the tall buildings! Great photo!
How interesting. I'd love to visit it sometime...
Wow. Daryl did a whole series on this park not too long ago. She's a BIG fan of the place. Guess I have to put it on my list of places to see if I ever get back to the city again, yeah?
I've never been to NYC/Manhattan so your pics from there always fascinate me!
This week, I have a trifecta of Sepia Scenes up! Yes, after a dry spell of blogging, I'm trying to get back into the swing of things ~ focusing on my pictures, and your Sepia Scenes is perfect for that!
At It's A Blog Eat Blog World I have the original Dowagiac Elk's lodge that I did as a 'vintage postcard', and Jaz is sepia-ized over at Purrchance To Dream, and then Little Isis is gazing out a sepia window on House Panthers.
And of course, I'm having fun with the Sepia Scenes Flickr Group too!
Cheers,
Mo
Any recreation area in an urbaan setting, is always appreciated. The river view adds to the city aura. A nice place to relax on that rock called Manhattan...
Hi Mary,
Around every corner a cityscape worth observing!
I never tire of the scenes around your world Mary.
Mines up - a little different for me this week. It's my hobby in sepia. :)
I think it is wonderful the view of the water through the buildings. A mecca. Great in sepia.
It's great to have some open space
Parks are always great. And that project sounds like a very good one!
Love that view too :)
That is pretty neat. The next time I'm in Manhattan I'm going to have to check that out. And what a beautiful view.
Hi Mary,
Great photo! Hope you computer is ok now. I actually saw this on the internet somewhere and was reading about it. Sounds like a really awesome idea to turn those old railways into parks! Have a great day!
