Welcome to Sepia Scenes!
These are architectural details of the LuEsther T. Mertz Library at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx, NY
Do you notice that there is a very fine netting covering the capital of the column? I didn't notice it until I enlarged the photo. My guess is that it's there to protect the decorative detail.
I'd like to wish everyone
A VERY HAPPY HOLIDAY AND A HEALTHY NEW YEAR!

Great shots, Mary. I think the netting is to keep birds from nesting and pooping. Lots of acid in bird poop!
Have a Merry Christmas !
Yes, protection from the birds. Nesting there would be very damaging. We do that on our library. Very mundane building in comparison but it keeps the mess down 100%. Merry Christmas, Mary.
Yes, I noticed the netting - it could be from the birds or if it's crumbling, it could be to protect anyone standing underneath it - but the sepia scenes are very pretty! I really love all the detail!
Merry Christmas
I got so busy working on Part 2 of this series today that I forgot to publish Part 1 until just now! Anyway, it's up now. From the "How I Did It" files I give you:
Sepia Scenes #10: "Sepia Tutorial Part I - Color Conversions"
I guess it's to keep birds from messing it up :O)
Lovely photos!
We wish you and yours a very merry Christmas and a blessed New Year!
Nice architectural shots and write up :)
Wishing you a blessed and peaceful Christmas :)
Wonderful shots. Merry Christmas Mary!
Merry Christmas Mary, to you and your family!
I love the detail in this week's pictures Mary! Mine is finally up!
It took me a couple of hours this morning, but I think it's worth it!
Hi Mary,
That's an awesome piece of architecture! Thanks for sharing! Have a safe and happy holiday season!!
Sherrie
such a huge column, Mary and yeah i can see the netting now. there's a reason to it why it's placed in there - protection from flying litterings and yeah the bird's poop.
Merry Christmas!
Love your photos, and yes -- it's most likely bird netting. I think architecture lends itself best to sepia, and the details become the focus when the color is gone.
Nice!
Merry Christmas! :-)
